| LETS GET THE CALICO MTNS HORSES DNA-TESTEDIf you have a Calico Mountains horse, we invite you to join with other Calico Mountain adopters and owners to get the herd area DNA tested. Dr. Gus Cothran is one of the foremost experts in wild horse genetics. He can perform a DNA test on any horse. If each of us got our horse tested, and shared the results with all the others, we would have a great body of genetic knowledge about this wonderful herd. Send your results to me and I will publish them on this website. This is from Dr. Cothran. Here's how you do it: I can do the DNA testing. It is $25 per animal. It can tell specifically what breeds are present in your mustangs. It may be able to show what general type of horse is present, such as Spanish or draft or something that is a general category like that. Sometimes it does not give any clear answer which could be due to the horse a generic type or be highly mixed, or it could happen for unclear statistical reason. However, if you want to give it a shot we need about 35 mane or tail hairs pulled so the follicle remains attached. Mail to the address below telling what you want done.
